The Proposal

It was February 8th 2020, just weeks before the entire world changed. We were sat by a secluded waterfall in the Singapore Botanic Gardens where Josh pulled out a personalised story book that outlined all the reasons he loved me. I was completely oblivious because I thought it was an early birthday present – so imagine my surprise as I get to the last page, and it asks me to marry him. I look up in disbelief to see him down on one knee. I left him hanging a moment too long because I couldn’t actually articulate the word ‘YES’ because I was absolutely sobbing and in shock… but there was no doubt what my answer was! We celebrated with beer and burgers – the perfect way to top off such a pivotal moment in our relationship.

Why we chose our venue

Josh and I love doing brunch dates so Meelup Farmhouse went to the top of our ‘to-try’ list when I saw a snap of their pancakes! I showed Josh their instagram and we both loved the look of the place (and menu), so I sent a wedding enquiry and booked in a family brunch date to scope the venue out in Sept 2020. As we were driving down the dirt track for the first time, I got this warm, fuzzy feeling. As soon as I set foot on the venue grounds, it was the strangest thing, because it kind of felt like home.

I felt giddy the entire time we were there, which further grew by Josh’s mirrored reaction. We explored the grounds a bit and we knew this is where we wanted to get married as it was the perfect amalgamation of each of us and our roots (coastal = Josh and farm = me). The food and staff were also amazing! It’s funny because I remember my mother-in-law commenting as we wandered around that, ‘this would be a great venue for a wedding’. We were already chatting to Anneliese a week or two after that first visit!

Style

We stuck to a moody, neutral/monochrome colour palette for a timeless aesthetic with little nods to Star Wars. We wanted the day to be an intimate, love fest with our nearest and dearest – best Dog of Honour included. The entire vibe that our chosen vendors created was the perfect reflection of us and the vision we wanted to emulate!

Fragrance

I wanted a gorgeously rich scent that could trigger the memories and emotions of our special day whenever I smelt it, so I ended up splurging on Baccarat Rouge 540 by Maison Francis Kurkdjian. I also really loved that it came in a candle!

Best Moments

Steph: It’s such a cliché, but the entire day was a highlight! Some of my absolute favourite moments were seeing Josh for the first time as I walked down the aisle and then hearing his vows – especially when he included an inside joke spoken in Bisaya (my Mama’s native language). The fact that we were able to celebrate our love with all the important people in our life, drinking and dancing that night away, was incredibly special. It was made extra special with the tributes we made to my late father throughout the ceremony and the styling.

Josh: The first time I saw Steph as she walked towards me, and hearing her vows. Walking into the venue after taking photos and being greeted by all our friends and family. My sister, Gemma’s, speech was one of my favourite parts of the entire night. Dancing/singing the night away on the deck under the festoon lights until everyone was ready for bed.

Wedding Playlist

Processional: The Imperial March was played “accidentally” 😅 prior to ‘Rivers and Roads’ by The Head and The Heart
Signing: ‘First Date – Acoustic’ by Taylor Acorn and ‘All I Want is You’ by Ball Park Music
Recessional: ‘Slow Show’ by The National Reception Entrance: ‘Alive with the Glory of Love’ by Say Anything
First Dance: ‘I Don’t Want to Set the World on Fire’ by The Inkspots
Other Songs: ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ by Queen was belted out in a circle of our loved ones on the dancefloor as our final song of the night!

Advice for Future Couples

It is your day – nobody else’s! Stay true to yourselves and involve all the people that are important to you both that will contribute to the magic of it all – vendors included. The small details won’t matter in the end, so be sure to take a moment together to take it all in because the day will fly by. It was legitimately the best day of our lives!
