Katie + Adam

Katie and Adam

Married on 28 October 2022

The Proposal

It was perfect! It was Christmas Eve 2020, we were living in a tiny houseshare in London and in the middle of a snap lockdown. I had been opening windows of a beauty advent calendar all month, and Ad woke me up in the 7.00am darkness with breakfast and a coffee. I thought he was excited about Christmas Eve! When he gave the calendar to open the final window, I told him it was HIS turn, I’d opened 23 of them! After much back and forth (multiple times), I finally opened the window and found a gorgeous diamond ring and looked up to find him on one knee. It made what might have been a cold, miserable winter in lockdown so unbelievably incredible! I’m a lucky girl.

Why we chose our venue

Believe it or not, we toured and booked the venue all online from overseas and didn’t step foot inside the estate until 12 weeks before the wedding! (A big thanks to mum & dad for making several visits and sending dozens of additional photos and videos). Thankfully we made the right decision as Aravina is absolutely gorgeous! From the perfectly manicured gardens and lakeside to the grand interiors, it had everything we were looking for all in one place. The Aravina team were exceptional from day one, professional, responsive, and completely on top of things. They made planning far easier than expected – particularly on the day! The addition of the Bridal Suite was also a big drawcard for us!

Our Style

We wanted a romantic wedding with an authentic, relaxed and fun feel! We got just that!

Best Moments

Getting married is the wildest thing – the day goes so so quickly, yet there are so many special moments that stay with you. For us, having the ceremony conducted by one of our oldest friends was so special! Kate knew each of us so well and included so many tidbits that other celebrants wouldn’t have been able to. Speeches for us were also very special, our parents and bridal party blew us away!

Finally, we took some time out during the reception to watch our favourite people from afar (thanks to my maid of honour Chenaye for that suggestion). Having that moment to be together, enjoy the moment and recalibrate was lovely. Also, we 100% recommend a sax player! So much fun!

Advice for Future Couples

Our biggest piece of advice is to ignore all of the noise and make decisions on what’s important to you. It’s your day.
If you have a strong network of family and friends – use them as much as possible. Have them as your MC, your cake maker, your celebrant. Having them by your side really makes the process and the day so memorable. And lastly, don’t leave anything until the big day, knock out your tasks in the weeks and days before so that you can be as relaxed as possible when you meet your partner at the aisle.
