Sarah & Tom

Married on 2 December 2022

The Proposal

On a short trip back down to Esperance where we first met. We were staying with Toms dad. Now looking back, Tom was hot under the collar all day and I was none the wiser. In the afternoon, we had a short window when our son was asleep to duck out and grab our favourite ice-cream. We detoured passed our special spot where we used to spend many afternoons nestled into the caves, eating fish and chips and talking about our grand plans.

With time being a factor (sleeping baby), we ran to the top to the cliff, I was in front, being silly and taking in the fresh air. As I turned around to see where Tommy was, to my surprise he was down on one knee with Percy (our groodle) by his side. At first I thought it was another fake proposal. He had done this a number of times during our 5 years together. But this time was different, and I was overwhelmed with emotions. It was a beautiful yet fleeting moment as we had to race back home and snap back into reality.

Why we chose our venue

Old Broadwater Farm was the first (and only) venue we visited. We had toddler-free window, so we hopped in the car and made the trip down to Busselton from Mandurah. As soon as we walked through the entrance of the property, we knew straight away that this is where it was going to happen.

Style

Modern romantic; we wanted the day to feel relaxed and had a garden party in mind. We chose to serve wedding cake as afternoon tea along with canapes, oysters and cocktails. we were lucky enough to have immaculate weather. Cocktail attire, garden games on the manicured OBF lawn brought this vision to life.

Fragrance

We both wore Byredo. Tom wore the “Bal D’Afrique” and I wore the “Gypsy Water”. We both picked these fragrances together at the end of our backpacking trip together in 2019.

Best Moments

We both really value our friendships, so we had 14 of our closest friends in our Bridal party (seven Bridesmaids and seven Groomsmen). This was a major highlight for us both as the day was full of laughs. Emma our poor photographer found it hard to get a serious photo of us all. This is exactly how we wanted our day to feel.

We chose to have Tom walk down the aisle with our 2.5-year-old Son (Flynn) right before the bridesmaids walked down. This was a very special moment for us, with our son able to witness his parents fall in love all over again.

Advice for Future Couples

In Toms’ words: you hope to only do this once so go big or go home!
In all seriousness as soon as we decided to have a big wedding (200 guests) we chose to not make it a stressful process. we wanted to enjoy the whole lead up as we knew it would be over before we knew it. A wonderful tip from our closest friends for the day of- At some stage during the day or night/ grab each other, find a quiet place, sit back and soak it up for a few minutes together. We remember taking a seat together looking back at our wonderful friends and family and thinking “how cool is this?”

Stand Out Vendors

Our celebrant Nikki- she managed to introduce all 14 of our bridal party, share our long-winded romance. All while keeping 200 guests captivated by her story telling. The whole process with her was easy, enjoyable and personal.

Our florist Steph- From my lack of direction regarding my ‘vision’ about the day, she absolutely nailed it. The time and effort she put into each petal of our blooms blew us away. I have never seen a bouquet so beautiful.

Our videographer/photographer- Dave and Emma. They were able to capture our emotionally filled day so effortlessly. We originally planned not have a videographer or photographer for the day as we find it extremely awkward getting photos taken. They made us feel so comfortable, continued to make us laugh and treasure each moment as it happened.

Hive Van – They were by far the crowd favourite – their cocktails were phenomenal and kept all guests VERY happy.
