The Proposal

I’ll always remember the day Nic guided me down the Tongariro Crossing in New Zealand. The descent, over 6,000 feet, felt overwhelming, and I started to panic. But Nic took my hand, looked into my eyes, and told me to trust him. He then carefully guided me down the steep slope backwards, ensuring each step was safe.

As we descended, all I could think was, ‘Please, marry me. Please, marry me.’ What I didn’t know at the time was that Nic was planning to ask me to be his wife at the top of the mountain. But because I was so anxious during the descent, I ended up delaying the proposal.

My darling Nic, I had already said yes a hundred times in my heart, even though you hadn’t yet asked the question. I had already given you my heart, and though you didn’t need to ask for it again, when you finally did, it was more perfect than I could have ever imagined.

Why we chose our venue

We went for a drive ten years ago and stumbled upon it – it was stunning. Ten years later, we still thought Margaret River’s Secret Garden was divine, and it felt like the perfect place for us to get married!

Our wedding theme

Enchanting, romantic, rustic, and real – down-to-earth and natural, yet with a minimalist elegance that still manages to leave a lasting ‘wow’.

Highlights of the day

A special moment was having my oldest daughter up there with us during our ceremony, holding hands, and my youngest, just one year old, lying on my dress in the garden. My family flew all the way from the UK to be there, and the dinner was nothing short of incredible – it was jaw-droppingly beautiful, perfectly set up, and the flowers were just right.

A funny story – my dad had to cut the sleeves off my dress because it was such a hot day, and he couldn’t undo the buttons. I had sent the bridesmaids off first in the stunning car, and then it was just my dad helping me with my dress and veil, along with our photographer, Shannon. I hadn’t quite thought that through, but I wouldn’t change those moments for anything. It was so special, spending that time with my dad and Shannon, who’s also a dad, and we were all just in the moment. It was a beautiful reflection of the bond my dad and I share. I truly love my dad – he’s the best man I know, apart from my partner. It was a moment I’ll never forget.
