The Proposal
On April 1st, 2023, it was a lovely autumn morning, and we had planned a relaxing Saturday at the beach. Sam took me to Gracetown Beach, and with not a soul in sight, he asked me to hold his coffee. Then, he asked me to grab one of the towels, and there, between the towels, was the box!
He dropped to one knee, opened the box, and asked me to marry him! I “ugly cried,” almost swallowed a fly, and finally managed to say YES. What a sight it must have been! It was absolutely perfect.
I had no idea about the ring. Sam, being a geologist, put so much thought and care into it. He worked with Utopian Creations in Adelaide to bring his vision to life. He sourced a gold nugget from his hometown of Ballarat, paired it with a Pilbara emerald, and accented it with Argyle diamonds. It’s truly spectacular!
Why we chose our venue
We were fortunate enough to have family who manage the Estate generously offer us the venue for our celebration. It was the perfect setting for what we wanted, giving us the flexibility to choose our own vendors with a focus on good food and wine. We had family and friends traveling from all over Australia, and having accommodation available on-site was such a bonus.
We hosted a welcome dinner on Thursday night, which was a beautiful, long-table, family-style gathering under the olive trees. Friday was the big wedding celebration, and then on Saturday afternoon, we had a recovery session on the grass with a BBQ and lawn games. Having the same location for all three days was absolutely perfect.
Our wedding theme
We wanted to create a weekend that was relaxed, fun, and a true celebration of our love. Our focus was on great food, great wine, and crafting a really special experience for our family and friends. Ultimately, we just wanted to have fun – and that’s exactly what we did.
Highlights of the day
Upon reflecting on our day, one big standout was Sam creating an amazing Mataro wine for our guests to take home. We enjoyed it at the welcome dinner (which was a huge surprise for me) and again on the wedding night. It was perfect—one of the perks of marrying a winemaker!
Walking down the aisle with both my mum and dad by my side, while our friend Nicky sang and played guitar, was such a special moment. And then, having my dad marry us made it even more meaningful.
Having the ceremony, reception, and all the photos at one location was a highlight. It kept our guests relaxed, and the dance floor was full from the very beginning.
