The Proposal
Rhys proposed during the surf trip of a lifetime to the Maldives. Little did I know, he had secretly scoped out my Instagram saved folder to find the perfect ring (sneaky and clever!). On our very first evening there, as the sun was setting over the ocean, he whispered his plan to the professional surf photographer who happened to be nearby.
Moments later, with the sky glowing and waves gently crashing in the background, Rhys got down on one knee. I was completely surprised-and of course, I said yes! It was the most magical moment, and thanks to his behind-the-scenes planning, we now have the most incredible photos to remember it by.
Why we chose our venue
St Aidan’s Winery was everything we were looking for. Its location was perfect-close enough to Bunbury to make things easy for both us and our guests, without sacrificing that relaxed, countryside charm. We instantly fell in love with the rustic atmosphere and the beautiful, down-to-earth vibe of the venue. It had that effortless, “no fuss” feel that suited us perfectly.
Our Style
The vibe was rustic and simply elegant-just the way we envisioned it. We chose a timeless colour palette of whites, soft greens, and natural neutrals, which complemented the surroundings beautifully and created a relaxed, romantic atmosphere.
Fragrance
I’ve never been a big perfume person, so I wanted something light and understated for the day. I wore Clarins Eau des Jardins Treatment Fragrance-fresh, subtle, and delicately floral. It felt more like a gentle breeze than a bold statement, which was exactly what I was after.
Highlights of the day
There were so many meaningful touches woven into our day. My twin brothers had the special honour of being our ring bearers-a moment that meant the world to me. Our celebrant thoughtfully included our mums in the ceremony, with a gesture that brought tears to many eyes: since they were the first to kiss us when we came into the world, they would also be the last to kiss us before we became husband and wife.
One of the most sentimental details was my veil, lovingly handmade by my mother-in-law. It was a stunning cathedral-length piece, delicately adorned with pearls-absolutely perfect in every way.
Advice for Future Couples
Stick to a budget! It’s so easy to get swept up in the excitement and overspend—everything adds up quickly. Decide early on what matters most to you, and where you’re happy to compromise or cut back.
One thing that really helped me was creating a run sheet a year out from the wedding. It’s honestly overwhelming how many little things need to be done, but having a clear plan allowed me to chip away at it over time. By the time the wedding month arrived, everything was organised and I could actually enjoy the lead-up without the stress!
