The Proposal

I wouldn’t exactly call it romantic, but it’s definitely a story that will be told for years to come. He did it in true Allen style. We were out doing Boxing Day sales when he pointed out a ring he liked and asked if it was something I’d go for. I said yes, of course. So naturally, I started anticipating a grand proposal. I mean, the ring was stunning and we were just days away from New Year’s Eve. What better time to propose? Fireworks, music, that magical countdown moment. Right?

Well, it didn’t go anything like that. Apparently, he couldn’t hold in his excitement a second longer. On the morning of December 27th, 2020, I woke up to use the bathroom. When I came out, there he was, on one knee, asking me to marry him. I blinked and said, “Are you serious?” then promptly grabbed the ring and slipped it on myself.  We had a quick cuddle and a kiss, then went on with our day as usual. Later, he decided we needed to mark the occasion properly. So we ended up at a beautiful beachside restaurant with our daughter and toasted to our engagement.

Why we chose our venue

We’re looking for an outdoor venue with plenty of space to comfortably accommodate a large group. Ideally, it would be a location without too many restrictions, where everything can happen in one place – from the ceremony to the celebration.

Our Style

Our style was completely and authentically us, nothing traditional or over the top. We wanted the day to feel happy, relaxed, and filled with the warmth of family. Think backyard BBQ vibes, good food, laughter, and a laid-back atmosphere where everyone felt at home.

Highlights of the day

We had the venue booked for the entire weekend, which was absolutely perfect. It gave us the chance to truly soak in every moment and spend quality time with all our loved ones – not just on the big day, but throughout the whole weekend. It made everything feel that much more special and memorable.

Fragrance

I wore My Way by Giorgio Armani. The name really resonated with me, and the scent was just beautiful – elegant, long-lasting, and totally me. Allen wore Legend by Mont Blanc. He loved the fragrance; it was masculine with a hint of sweetness, and it suited him perfectly.

Advice for Future Couples

Do it your way. Don’t feel pressured to follow traditions or trends.

And if it’s within your budget, hire a wedding planner. Truly, they’re worth their weight in gold. Having someone to take the pressure off and bring your vision to life makes all the difference.
