The Proposal
Tom proposed in December 2021. We drove down to our favourite spot on The Cut beach, just like we always do, so I had absolutely no idea what was coming. I nearly ruined the whole thing by tearing through the car looking for a ball for our dog and almost found the ring.
When we arrived, he was so nervous that he dropped to one knee in the sand almost straight away. He asked me to make him the happiest man in the world and marry him. Tom always had a habit of jokingly kneeling down in pretty places, so my first reaction was, “You better not be effing joking.” But when I realised he was serious, I of course said yes.
He had packed us a little picnic and brought non-alcoholic champagne since I was pregnant with our son Henry. It was such a beautiful and special day, one I will never forget.
Why we chose our venue
We had been to Evedon a few times together, usually just stopping in for a beer and to soak up the beautiful view. The very first time we visited, we both looked at each other and thought, this would be such a perfect place to get married one day. So when we got engaged, it was an easy decision. Evedon was our first choice.
Our Style
When we decided to have a proper wedding, we figured we may as well go all out. We are both pretty casual people, so having a big, fancy celebration was definitely something different for us. We did not have a set theme or style for the day, we just wanted everyone we loved to be there and for it to feel relaxed and fun.
I did a lot of the styling myself. My dad built the arbour and some of the decorations, and I painted all the signage and other bits we placed around the venue. I stained everything a dark wood colour to match the darker furniture we chose.
My very talented friend Sam did all of our flowers exactly how I imagined. I simply told her I love yellow roses and she got it just right. The bouquets, the arbour flowers, and a few small table arrangements were all perfect. I did not want anything too over the top.
Infinity supplied all the furniture and it suited the vibe perfectly. There were tall tables, comfy lounges, and plenty of space for people to move around and mingle rather than being stuck in formal seating.
Best Moments
It’s hard to choose just one highlight because the entire day felt perfect. One really special moment during the ceremony was when my brother walked our son Henry down the aisle to bring us the rings. When Henry reached the front and stood on the dais with us, he turned around and saw all the people watching. He absolutely lit up, thinking the whole crowd was there just for him. He smiled, clapped, and soaked up all the attention while everyone cheered. It made us so happy.
Another highlight was our first dance. Neither of us are natural dancers, so we took a few lessons and were thrilled that we actually remembered the steps. We nailed it and had so much fun in that moment together.
We also loved having the venue booked for the whole weekend. Even after the wedding itself was over that night, everyone stayed, and we got to keep celebrating with our friends and family for the rest of the weekend. It made everything feel even more special.
Advice for Future Couples
Try not to stress too much. Whatever happens will happen and the most important thing is to enjoy yourself rather than focusing on everything being perfect. Make sure to take a moment during the day or night to pause and really take it all in because it goes by so quickly.
Fragrance
I didn’t really plan to, but yes. For my bridesmaid Kayelia’s birthday, we all chipped in to buy her the Gucci Flora perfume that she absolutely loves. She brought it with her on the day, and we all wore it as something special and shared.
