When Tess and Greg think back on their wedding, one word comes to mind: togetherness. Their celebration wasn’t just about a single day, it was a whole weekend surrounded by loved ones, and the soundtrack of native birds in the surrounding bushland.

The Proposal

Greg never actually planned to propose on that day, but when you’re hiking Cape Hauy on a crisp autumn morning, with sweeping ocean views and gulls flying beneath you, sometimes the moment chooses itself.

“I turned around and Greg was on his knee,” Tess recalls. “I was so surprised, but he also looked so surprised that I actually asked him, ‘Are you sure?!’”

It was, of course, an easy yes. The couple spent the long walk back laughing, telling stories, and soaking in the glow of what had just happened.

The Location

For their wedding, Tess and Greg wanted something that reflected their love of the outdoors and gave them time to connect with their guests. A private campground surrounded by National Park was the perfect fit. Greg even managed a surf on the wedding morning, while Tess and her bridesmaids settled into hair and makeup prep.

“Having the venue from Friday to Sunday meant we could slow down and really be with everyone,” Tess says. “From a paella picnic on Friday night to shakshuka under the gumtrees on Sunday morning, it felt like one big gathering rather than a single day that flies by.”

Style

The couple kept things relaxed, warm, and full of heart. Guests were treated to endless food and drinks, kids’ activities, and even a ‘decorate your own drinking vessel’ station for the grown-ups. With no curfew, the dancefloor flowed late into the night, and the bushland setting added a natural magic to every moment.

Best Bits

For Tess and Greg, the highlights were simple but unforgettable: seeing each other at the end of the aisle, exchanging vows, placing rings on each other’s hands, and looking around to see all their favourite people together in one place.

Advice

“First, choose the right person!” Tess laughs.
“Then, work out the two or three things that matter most to you both, and build your day around them. For us, it was inviting everyone we wanted, having amazing food, and choosing a private, nature-filled venue. Once you know your priorities, it’s much easier to make compromises on everything else.”
