Tips for Off-Site Wedding Photos

Are you thinking about heading off-site for your wedding photos to soak up more of that South West magic? Whether it’s the coastline, forest or a local landmark you’ve fallen in love with, a little planning goes a long way to make sure it’s as relaxed and beautiful as you’ve imagined.

Here are a few insider tips to help your off-site shoot run smoothly.

1. Location

Choose a spot that isn’t too far from your venue. The closer it is, the less time you’ll spend in transit and the sooner you can get back to your guests. You might also consider a pre-wedding shoot if you’d like those scenic shots without the time pressure on the day.

2. Timing

Don’t wing it! A well-planned schedule makes all the difference. Factor in time for travel, getting in and out of vehicles, and a few relaxed moments with your crew. Work closely with your photographer to build a realistic timeline and keep your other vendors in the loop so the day flows seamlessly.

3. Light & Weather

If you’re chasing that dreamy golden hour glow, check what time the sun will set on your wedding date and plan around it.

Your photographer can help you map out the best time to head off and the ideal location for lighting. Always have a backup plan in case of wind, rain or harsh sun. Your local photographer will know plenty of great sheltered spots nearby.

4. Comfort

Sunset shoots can get chilly, especially near the coast. Pack wraps or blankets for your wedding party to keep everyone comfortable between shots. Happy faces make for the best photos!

5. Transport and Refreshments

Decide who’ll be joining you for off-site photos, just the two of you or the whole wedding party. Make sure you’ve got enough vehicles and designated drivers sorted well in advance.

Don’t forget essentials like water, snacks and a few celebratory drinks. Chat with your caterer or beverage supplier ahead of time to see if they can prepare a small hamper for the trip.

6. Flexibility

Things don’t always go exactly to plan, and that’s okay. Stay flexible and trust your photographer to adapt if something changes on the day. Having a few backup locations in mind will keep things stress-free.

By taking the time to plan your off-site photo session, thinking about location, timing, comfort and logistics, you’ll set yourself up for a relaxed and memorable experience that truly captures the essence of your South West wedding.
